Go to Sears to Try on, Then Buy Online Somewhere Else

Before I go into my rant about my recent trip to Sears, I want to point out that it isn't the employee's fault. Rather it is the company's fault for not properly training their employees. The service at Sears would greatly improve if the company gave two *** about their customer service. It is obvious though that the I went to buy clothing at Sears, in Torrance CA. Picked out 4 pairs of pants with the 50% off for the 2nd pair. No problem yet, then to checkout...It must have been awhile since I was in there last time since all the mini checkout stations have been consolidated into one giant station. You'd think it would be more efficient, but it wasn't. I was 3rd in line, with 1 cashier working, and waited almost 30 mins to get up. Then as I was expecting to hand over my card I got a barrage of questions of "do you want to join this" or, "are you a member of that". The top question was "do I want to join the Sears team?" as in work there, or do I know of anyone looking for work. When I said no, I was given a piece of paper stating who to call to apply. I said no thanks, but they would not let me not take it. (I gave in and took it, only to put it back on the counter).... The following week I wanted to return 3 of the items I had bought last week (see above). I'll spare the details of another checkout line wait. Without tax, the return was to be $145. The girl handed me $126. I told her that didn't seem right since I bought 2 pairs of pants at full price ($58.00), and one at half price ($29.00). She looked back at the receipt, then back at the register, (BTW, I think these registers are the same ones they had back in 1970), then back at me then back at the receipt, then pulled out the calculator, then back to the register to finally turn back to me to say: "I don't know what to tell you". So I said she should probably call the manager...The manager went over the transaction of what had just happened, and began to tell me that since the return had already taken place, she couldn't figure out what went wrong. Huh?!?!? I think she got the hint from my response she should try and figure out something else, so then she went back thru everything and decided to undo the initial return and start over. We ended up finally getting it solved, and the correct amount was finally handed over to me. My original plan was to return these pants and buy another brand. But after these 2 separate experiences within a week, I decided to just go and try on the other pants I was looking at and go online and buy. After reading these other complaints before writing this, I don't think I'll even buy online with Sears. It's hard to say cause I've been shopping here for ever and can get most anything I need, but I don't think I have the patience anymore to deal with the customer service/checkout scene. New plan: Go to Sears to Try on Clothes, Buy Online Somewhere Else!

Sears Installation Review

Paid for dishwasher delivery and installation. They tell me delivery will be early, please get to the location prior to delivery window. They then show up 3 hours later. They leave the dishwasher in my entry way and state they will not install it. I asked them to wait while I call customer service. While I am trying to get someone on the phone, they drive away. DO NOT USE SEARS FOR ANYTHING!!!

Sears - Range blacked out and I am told to wait more than a week for a technician

Sears customer service is hitting the ground quicker , fast and hurriedly. These expensive, cheaply made by foreigner are not worth the money paid and they do not have the audacity to tell the truth about the products until the technician makes repeated calls to repair something weak and they tell you how many calls have been made to repair the same product several times. Sears does not complain when you spend extra money for a service plan that know you will definitely need and then you have to wait more than ten days for a technician. They want to take their time to make an appearance while an individual uses one hand and so does the 80 year old mother, children are attending school during the day and when they return home how can the range be used to prepare a meal unless matches are used and who is going to tell young children to ignite a match to light the burners? Not I or my mother because of the danger, Is Sears replacing the range and the money spent to feed my family of 5 children and an 80 year old for over a week? What kind of customer service hangs up on the customer, rude, disrespectful, cheap foreign labor. Weak

Sears poor repair and customer service

I have bought my last ever appliance from Sears and I have wasted my money on their extended warranty. When there is a problem such as what I have now have, a freezer compartment that is not working, they take an inexcusable amount of time to come out for a repair appt. A week and a half is too long for a customer to wait with melting food. This is even after the first appt. was blown off by them. From prior experience I know they will come out look at it and decide to order a part, then we will have to wait another two weeks. Too bad no one at Sears cares. You think if they value repeat customers they would at least hire more and reliable repair people and stress superior customer service.

Sears in Antioch, California - Customer service in store, Concord, CA

I attempted exchanging 5 boys clothing items that I had previously purchased about a week before and 1 item that had been a gift, at the Sears store in Concord, CA. I was exchanging the items for the exact same items only one size up. They were the same color, style and brand and were in perfect shape with all tags still attached to the clothes. In fact they had never been out of the bag except one pair of shorts that was tried on one time. When the cashier tried to return the items she told me they were not on the receipt. Which in fact, they were. I found out later she had scanned a previous return receipt that was stapled on top of that receipt. After over 20 minutes she told me she couldn’t do the exchange! I asked her to call a manager. After 5 calls and another 30 minutes a manager finally came to us. She told him that I was trying to return the items without receipt. I replied that I was trying to exchange the items for the exact same item not return them! She went on to tell him that she couldn’t find the items on the receipt so the manager just told me flat out that I could not do the exchange! I had $100 worth of clothing that I could not use! I asked to see the store manager right away. After being in the store for over an hour I finally spoke to the store manager. I was told that I could return the clothes and purchase them again and pay more money (since they would give me an insanely low price for the return!) Why would I have to pay more money for something I was exchanging for the exact same thing???? I told him I would rather come back and return every item I bought(close to $400 worth) then pay more for an even exchange and he said ok! I took my items and left! Since we were leaving for vacation in a few days and I needed the clothing for the trip, I drove 45 miles to go to another Sears in Fairfield, CA. I took my items to the register and they too said my items were not on the receipt but instead of treating me badly they did the exchange with no problem at all! Half way through the transaction the cashier realized the mistake with the receipt and redid the transaction. The Clerk was nice, efficient, and treated me with respect. I will never again do business with the Concord Sears! Nor will I do business with company if this is a companywide policy that it is so difficult for a customer to do an even exchange! I find it extremely bad customer service that it takes 5 calls and half an hour to get a manager to respond to a customer waiting! Unfortunately this wasn’t an isolated incident, I was once in that store for 4 hours just trying to pick up a layaway that had been misplaced and ransacked. Any time I have asked for a manager or the sales clerk has needed help (which is a lot) it takes about 20-30 minutes for any manager to respond! Then they usually leave before the transaction is complete or before the clerk knows completely what to do. It’s a disgrace to treat customers this way!

Sears in Tupelo, Mississippi - Dishwasher Doesn't Dry Dishes!

1.0
Details
The local Sears Store, which I've since learned is a Sears Hometown Store (which is ***), sold me a $600.00 Dishwasher that doesn't dry the dishes or clean well. The ONLINE Sears Store agreed to exchange it for the particular Kenmore dishwasher which was $100.00 less; but they were going to charge eliminating the sale price at the time which was %15 off when I bought the Whirlpool one. I also was told I would only receive $10 back in the exchange. Today...well over a month later, I learned that if I had gone through with the exchange, Sears would have charged for the 3 year service protection we paid on the original purchase, but would have not applied it to the exchange dishwasher. I think Sears was going to Charge me for BOTH Dishwashers, too, if I had exchanged this one that doesn't dry the dishes or clean them well. In other words...SEARS IS A COMPLETE CHEAT!!

Sears Parts don't fit

2 bands that surround the door shelves broke. I ordered new ones and they are too large. Sears said I had to have them trimmed. They want me to either travel 20 miles and pay around $18 in tolls to go to a repair center or charge me $95 to have someone come to me to fix THEIR issue. Why should I have to pay to fix THEIR issue? They refused to help unless I paid them or go to THEIR repair center. I spoke with THEIR complaint department manager and he finally said he would give me a 20% discount for a repair person to come to me which would drop the price to $77 to again, fix THEIR issue. What a rip off. They charge $68 for the parts and then they want another $77 or have me travel to their repair center to trim the braces. How many people can trim a metal rod and also, how would they know how much to trim it if I cannot bring the refrigerator with me. There are openings at each end of the rods to hold the end pieces that go onto the door. There are protrusions on the end pieces that go into the holes If you trim too much the slots will be cut off, then what?

Sears in Peterborough, Ontario - "Big Ticket Items" 72 hour Return Policy

1.0
Details
We've been saving our pennies for a while to buy a new rototiller for the garden- we do quite a large plot to feed the family. We researched and decided that we wanted a chain driven rather than belt driven model based on customer reviews found online. On the Sears.ca website we found our tiller- it even said it was chain driven! And for under 2k! Perfect we thought. (Link to tiller advertisement: http://www.sears.ca/product/craftsman-md-rear-tine-tiller/671-000926006-21AB454E599) Ordered it, picked it up, assembled it... noticed a belt, but thought it probably had something to do with the engine..... I should have called to return it right then. We used the tiller and it seemed to do an ok job- the ground is still a little wet around here so we waited for it to dry up a bit and tried again. It worked for maybe 1/4 acre, then became a pain in the butt. It wasn't tilling anything anymore- that belt had twisted. So we called Sears about the 2 year warranty. I wanted to return the piece of junk because it wasn't what was advertised at all- I thought I was paying for a chain driven tiller. We were informed that for "big ticket items" such as my $1200 tiller there is only a 72 hour window for returns, not 30 days like they advertise everywhere on their site and stores. So apparently we're stuck with the heap. We then called the repair line and got told to call the manufacturer, who said that the *** belt was still covered under their 30 day (!) warranty, and was told to call a local distributor. Whew! All in all- false advertising, horrible customer service policies, piece of *** equipment that we paid way too much for and are now stuck with. Hooray Sears. Never shopping there again, and neither should anyone else.
